Literacy & numeracy
Literacy
We have a strong literacy approach within Kew Primary starting with intentional collaborative planning by teachers in each year level, this informs our teaching. The focus on data helps us track student progress and ascertain how we add value to your child’s learning.
When students read and think about what they read exercises their comprehension and analytical abilities. Exposure to stories are critically important to a learner, reading lets them observe good writing first hand.
Reading is like breathing in, writing is like breathing out.
Students are encouraged choose ‘just right’ books, Kew Primary has a wonderful library that supports student reading journey with a wide variety of books to meet all interests. We use a variety of rich writing experiences to support students' development complemented by a whole school spelling approach that is built on each successive year. In doing this, students develop a common language around solving unknown words.
